Witter Home Improvements, LLC

I have been in the construction industry since 1973 and have owned my business since 1980. My business is generated through referrals; someone I have worked for in the past has given my name to their neighbors, relatives, or associates, and recommended my company. They are one of many reasons for my success as a contractor. My experience has taught me a few things as well; most of all, that a long lasting and working relationship with my customers, and proper communication with every detail precedes all!  This is my commitment to you.

Not seeing a particular product that you are interested in? Witter Home Improvements can find the products that you have in mind through our strong alliance with the many vendors that we are established with. Their knowledge is a valuable resource to call on to find a particular item, and to help determine the best fit for your home and budget.

  • Water Fire Smoke Restoration

Proper evaluation of your insurance adjuster’s estimate of repairs is essential. Do you know that they have included every thing that you are entitled to? Can you negotiate and arbitrate for all of your losses? Do you know how the process works with your adjuster and mortgage company? If not, Witter Home Improvements can help you. We will work with any adjuster’s estimate, and we are familiar with both Exactimate and MSB software. Both are used by the insurance industry to determine the loss.

Most of us never think that a catastrophic event can happen to affect our home environment. Sometimes a little forethought can help to avoid those circumstances. Have you ever considered that when you leave your home unattended for an extended length of time, or for a vacation, a few simple steps may help save your castle?

  • Turn off the water supply to your fixtures.

The supply line to your refrigerator for the ice cube maker is sometimes ¼” plastic.

The supply line to your washing machine is usually just rubber. The hot water heater can leak with out notice, and continues while it is under pressure. Plumbing that has not been performed by a professional is a potential loss. Who knows what lurks behind those walls?

  • Power down non-essential electrical circuits or un-plug power cords.

Every power cord in poor condition in your house has the potential to cause a fire. What program that you are recording while you are on vacation, is that important?  Do you really need power to your coffee maker, alarm clock, or computer?

  • Close off doors to each room

Most insurance agents will tell you that a lot of the damage caused by fire is from smoke. Once the fire starts smoke travels from room to room, affecting many rooms. Closing the doors slows the whole process down. The difference between having a house fire with limited damage, and losing the entire structure is only a few minutes in some cases. Ask any firefighter.

You do have a choice; you can select any contractor you choose to put your property back together. You do not have to use the contractor that your adjuster has selected. We believe that the best contractor to select is one that has the capacity to orchestrate each detail needed to rebuild your home to a pre-loss condition. Proper communication for you between the adjuster, the contractor, the mortgage company, the material suppliers, and your local building inspectors is essential to achieve a stress free environment.  Witter Home Improvements can help you.

  • Windows and Doors

Over the years, with the experience that we have gained through the many installations, and after the utilization of various manufacturers through out the industry, a few things become very clear. Products are designed and offered for various applications. What is the smartest choice that would benefit your circumstances most?  You know your circumstances; Witter Home Improvements can help you select the smartest choice.

  • Most products are only as good as the installation, and proper installation is essential to performance.

  • Most products have a “Good” a “Better” and a “Best” quality structuring.

  • Color is important, but when you have to select the 3rd  or  4th  best product on the market to get the exact color that you want, is that wise?

  • Not all product warranties are created equal. And some are not worth the paper they are written on. It is important to know the difference.

  • Is your hard earned money well spent for the “Top of Line” window on a home you plan on selling next year?

  • Selection of your windows and doors should match your lifestyle. Do you have children or pets? Do you have an elderly relative living with you?

Does the contractor that you select have a dependable and knowledgeable service staff that can handle any issues that may come up after you have purchased their product? We do. Witter Home Improvements knows which manufacturers to avoid for a problem down the road. We are confident that a quick resolution to any issue is the best solution for a continued relationship for all our customer concerns.

§  Roofing

Witter Home Improvements is GAF/ELK Certified Roofing Contractor and is authorized to offer the Weather Stopper System Plus Warranty. What does this mean for you? This status is special…. Less than 6 of each 100 professional roofing contractors in the country meet the professional qualifications and commit to the superior standards required to become certified.

Protection of your home exterior, decking, driveway, and yard has our highest priority while we are working to complete your roof. This is a daily event that we will tailor to your unique circumstances. Every roof has different requirements as well; the following is what we consider our base to begin with.

A typical Witter Home Improvements installation will include GAF Timberline™ Pestique High Definition 30 year shingles and, with the following procedures and products.

§  Complete removal of existing roof products. This gives an opportunity to inspect the condition of your roof boards or sheeting, and helps to determine if damage has occurred as well as the reason for it.

§  Inspection of existing chimney chases flashings to determine if repair or replacement is necessary. We have capacity to replace the cap as well.

§  Application of GAF Weather Watch ™ leak barrier to all eves, valleys and problem areas. The preferred method would include the removal of gutters to wrap the Weather Watch on to the fascia board and behind the gutters. On some homes a new gutter system may be necessary to achieve this process.

§  Application of GAF Pro-Start ™ starter shingles for all gables, valleys, and eaves. This will give the proper adhesive edge for your roof to adhere to on the areas that is most vulnerable to high winds. We do not use a 3-tab shingle for the starter; they are not engineered for that use

§  Application of GAF Shinglemate™ fiberglass reinforced underlayment. Helps your new roof lay flat, and is stronger that regular 15lb. tar paper.

§  Application of GAF Cobra Vent ™ to all ridge tops. A low profile continuous venting system that is application friendly by allowing the ridge cap to lay flat.

§  Application of GAF Seal-A-Ridge protective ridge and hip cap shingles. This area of the roof has the highest stress. This cap shingle is designed to allow for proper installation. We do not use a cut 3-tab shingle for our ridge cap; they are not engineered for that use.

§  Application of painted galvanized steel Drip Edge for all gables, this gives protection from water penetration and a proper and even extension to the roofing as well. This also protects the roofing against having a ladder crush the edge while repair or replacement of your siding.

§  Application of painted galvanized steel for all Valleys. We use 20” wide instead of 18” Why not get the full protection available?

§  Application of aluminum gutter aprons in various colors.  We use a custom bent 3” x 3” apron, when applicable. This allows attachment though the face of the apron with the gutter bracket. This means that no nail penetrates the 1st 5 inches from your gutter to your starter shingle.

§  Application of all necessary boot flashings for plumbing vents, and application of any bathroom exhaust vents.
